Engine removal on a 1990 2.9 auto 4x4

There's some pics in the technical library (but don't know if it's enough detail), but I can't be much help w/ pics since my Ranger was made with no bell and whistles from the factory.

As far as the oil level, I am not very fimilar with the circuit. But if I had to guess, the light would only light up if it were grounded to complete the circuit. As far as performance or otherwise running, no, you're good there.

hahahhaha....those pics ended up helping me a little. I still have not had time to put the acessories back on, but by looking at those pictures I realized that I had the valve covers on the wrong sides....ooops!! They are fixed now.

I have a few questions. One is about the dis. cap. Which post is for the #1 cylinder? When I look at the haynes manual, it shows the post marked in black. Well, that post does match up to the way the cap sits. Does any one have a picture or a better description of which one is the #1 post.

Also, where is the harness for the MAP sensor? I cannot find that thing. Is it tied in with any other sensors that can make it easier for me to find? Thanks for any help.

any help with these questions?

Can someone please pop their hood and tell me where the wiring and vacuum for the map sensor are coming from....I am kinda stuck now and I want to try to crank this thing tomorrow. Thanks.

Vacuum came from passenger side vacuum tap (front one).

I really don't know what to tell you about the electrical harness. It should be around... If you can't find it, there's a possiblity it got mashed between the engine and bellhousing. :dntknw: All I can really suggest is to get a bright light, climb up there, and look throughly..

I haven't had time to go out in the garage and take a look.. At work, just taking a second at TRS trying to wake up before I start my day.

thanks for that info, but I have been looking around. I don't see it. That's why I want to know which harness it is on/ where it comes out of the firewall/ etc.

I'll go take a picture during lunch today.

Sorry dude, my phone broke this morning, I'll see about getting a pic later when I get off work with my camera

I am ready to crank the truck if I can figure out where the map sensor harness is. I assume this truck has a MAP sensor correct? It's a 1990? I don't see a MAF and it's fuel injected, so I think MAP is the only other choice.

Also can someone tell me where to get the vacuum source for it? I see that you said the passenger side vacuum tap...I don't know what that is. Is that a vacuum canister or just some sort of vacuum source on the manifold? Please let me know, I am itching to try this thing.

The MAP sensor plug comes off the harness closest to it. It should be right around there.

The vacuum source is the "tree" (steel hex shaped piece with 3 or 4? small ports sticking out of it that screws into the side upper intake, in front of the IAC, you really can't miss it). You should really fimilarize yourself with the vacuum system in general, just incase you miss a vacuum line and the engine idles like a top fuel dragster when you start it back up.

A MAS is a fuel injection emissions device. Only the '90+ California emissions Rangers 2.9Ls had them. I am running that computer in my '88 with a Taurus MAS. I actually still have the MAP since it is also functions a barometric pressure sensor. I just was able to remove just the vacuum line.

I will have time tomorrow (Saturday) to take some pics for you. The week days are just very busy for me, weekends are my "work on my junk" days.

This is on a '90 BII, It's coming right off from the main big harness going across the back of the motor.

wait a minute....I think I may know what my problem is. The picture that you showed me I have that thing hooked up. But the MAP sensor on the 88 engine is up by the throttle cable bracket. Do they have different MAP sensor locations? Is that my whole problem? The different locations of the sensor?

This could explain why my question seems so obvious to everyone...I could have been looking for a connection that is not there!
