Finally getting caught up enough that had time to the pick apart to get a set of heads for the upcoming rebuild. Found what looked to be a good donor. Removed the heads and head for the shop. Upon inspection found the both of the heads cracked in the typical 2.8 head..between the intake and exhaust valve......The yard that I got the heads from are real good about exchanging the heads. And they have enough to select from....but....looks like Saturday is going to be busy..

When I find a good set, new exhaust seats, some moderate port work, a set of 2.9 valves. I did CC a couple of the chambers and they are 44 cc. According to a set of old specs I found for a 78 Mustang 2.8 the deck is .045''. The head gaskets I have are .055'' so with a 44 cc head chamber volume make the compression ratio around 8.7 to 1.

I am thinking a head cc of 42, deck height of .010'' flat top pistons .055'' gasket, compression will be 9.8 to 1.

Hmmm, i didn't think the 2.8 heads were prone to cracking, i know the 2.9 ones are.

Hope you are right. Going to find out real soon. Packing a lunch and heading for the pick apart.

2.8 heads can crack due to they have a shout in them where water gets trapped and it boils. But there is a spot you can still them to relive this problem. There is a write up on this in the tech library.
