Rebuilding my 1989 2.9 liter and had the block bored. Am putting new pistons in and am wondering what hole each piston goes in. The connecting rods are numbered 1 thru 6 but are they staggered? are they 1 2 3 up on side and 4 5 6 up the other side? or are they the firing order? I put the main bearing caps and connecting rod bearing caps in a sequence when I took them off so I know where they go. Should of done the same thing with the pistons. Thanks, laneysbrat

Yes.

#1 is front passenger side, #3 is rear passenger, #4 is front driver's, #6 is rear driver's. Mains are usually numbered with arrows (or have multiple arrows instead of numbers) pointing to the front. Pistons usually have arrows on the top pointing to the front. Just be sure not to get the rods caps on backwards. Also really watch the piston ring clocking.
