damn it damn it damn it...i just lost the engine in my 97 ranger agian!!! these 3.0s are pissing me over...last one died on me with 156,000 miles...spun a bearing...this one i suck just a little water into the intake and is is just as bung up as the last one.....what i dont get is that the spark plugs are dry and my oil looks fine......pissing off.....my 97 has been giving me more problems then the other ones.....what do i do....change the engine or get my self a chevy
 
Like I told my buddy the other day, when a Ford breaks, you can fix it. When a Chevy breaks, you replace it :D
 
i feel your pain, my 4.0 in my exploder is knocking. my last 4.0 cracked its block. IMO if i could have my 89 ranger with the 2.9 back id do it in a hear beat. my 2.9 never gave me issues
 
A 3.0 is stout. Not sure why you're having so much trouble.

If an engine swap has to happen, make it a OHV 4.0. All the other cologne engines are pieces of garbage or over complicated.
 
I've heard a number of people crying about problems with 3.0 and 4.0 engines, but I've never had an issue.

Now if we talk 2.9L..... well.... I have one running one left, and when it dies I'm liable to say good riddence. My first one ate the valves... off a World Products head.... My second one came with a cracked head. I checked it out, replaced the head and it promptly ate the one I didn't replace. Replaced that and it decided to crack both heads at once....
 
I've never had any issues with my 4.0. It's still purring like a kitten.But you can have problems with any engines.
 
well i have had 2 3.0s in one truck.....i dont like them....i DONT want to drop in an other 3.0 is this truck and i cant aford an other car.....looks like i need to get my gay ass yellow zx2 back on the road.....freekin a
 
Save and get the 4.0 when you can. It will take a lot of punishment!
 
now hwat o they say about blowing up 3.0s........
ah yes. they say "you should not ever operate anything more complex than a refiridgerator"
all i got to say is take a nice little 2.9 and drop it in.
 
Sounds pretty funny to me have had three 3.0l motors to date now and not a single one had any issues.

Mind you i never had any of em for more than three years (i tended to get board and sold em off for bigger and better) but this current ones here for the long haul.

My one ranger was a 1996 4x4 ex cab 3.0L auto. Truck had 285,000kms (about 180,000miles) on it when i sold it and other than some small repairs to the front end and the 4x4 it was mostly trouble free. the only job done to that motor was a Idle Air Control Motor and reg maintence. It ran on dino 5W30 oil and had the crap beat out of it daily. It hauled the most weight of any of my vehicals and did so struggling for every km LOL 3.0L DONT LIKE 4500LBS behind em LOL.

But still that truck NEVER left me stranded, went every were my brothers jeep could (and some places it did not), and even the POS a4ld trans never gave up (although it was on its last legs LO).

I still wish i never sold that truck i love my current ranger but they did not offer the 4x4 with the 3.0L anymore so i got a 2wd as i WILL NEVER own another SOHC 4.0L motor after my old mans exploder that lived up to its name with only 200,000kms (124,000miles) on the clock of JUST commuting duty.

The front plate and license plate damage was fromt a who could make it up higher on the snow bank competition i had with my bros jeep i won LOL he did not want to hit it as hard as me LOL

dude if i could i would...that would be huge up grade in my book...hell i think a kia 1.6 would be an upgrade over the 3.0

Well then heck, lets make a deal, got a kia 1.8 dohc sitten in my old sephia(trans went) that i'll sell ya. :icon_rofl:
