Hi guys. I wanted to see what advice you may have for me. I've been trying to cure a miss in my engine for a week. I have a 97 Ranger w/4.0 and manual trans w/165K on it. I just replaced the fuel filter, cleaned the maf, iac, cleaned air filter, replaced the plugs with autolite oem w/0.054 gap, tested the secondary resistance in the coil(read approx. 14 ohm on each pair), tested spark plug wires(they only have 35K on them), and I looked for arcing in the dark tonight and saw nothing. It is not showing any trouble codes, so I wanted to see what you guys would test next. It sputters all the way through the gears and only quits when I let off the gas and coast. I wasn't sure of the correct way to test the "primary" resistance of the coil on the harness connector b/c my haynes manual shows 3 prongs in the illustration and mine has 4 prongs on the connector. Can anyone tell me the correct way to test this and what should I check next. Just for your info I have run injector cleaner through it and a couple gallons of 93 octane fuel over the last week with no change. Thanks.

Oh this hits too close to home.

Check your compression. I just went through every step you did plus a few and got no results.

Turns out my rings are fried.

Same symptoms. Good luck
