so lately when I first start my Ranger it will start up fine. when I give it a little gas the engine will miss for a second then rev up enough for me to engage the clutch once the engine warms up the engine doesn't miss anymore. what could it be possibly sparkplugs. it doesnt miss when I'm cruising.

Yes, best place to start would be spark plugs.

Cold engine requires Rich air/fuel mix, so spark needs to be good and hot to ignite mixture.
And the colder the weather the Richer the fuel mix, computer bases fuel mix on engine temp

What Ron said and what Year\Make\Engine do you have?. Update your user info or give us that info when you ask a question we can better help you.

The IAC - idle air controller - should bump your cold idle if it is working properly.
The CTS and ACTS - coolant temp sensor & air temp sensor - tell the computer how cold/warm the engine and incoming air are. The computer adjusts the fuel supply based on this information among other things.
If you do not get a 'fast idle' when cold, check the IAC and the CTS to insure they are working.
Changing plugs if they are worn is a good idea also, as already suggested.
