Engine lean?

ok so on wed on teh way home from work the check engine light came on. finally ahd auto zone read the code and it came up both banks running lean. waht culd it be? waht would jsut all of a sudden go bad as im driving?

Could mean the o2's are bad, i dont trust napa or advanced for code reading, but thats just me.

I had the same code often with both banks running lean. It turned out to be a fuel pump that was failing, rather slowly.

If its hot outside, you'll notice the issue more. When it's colder, it's not such a problem. The fuel pump is something to look into, anyway.

I HIGHLY doubt your O2's are bad. They are just doing their job by letting you know it's running lean.

I would start by checking for vaccuum leaks.

Two things First you should post the actual codes

2nd. Why would you not trust AZ to read the codes. Most of them use the acron readers and you can watch them doing. Take it from them and do it yourself if they seem incompatent. Plus if you do it you can erase them. Az is not suppose to erase them but you can. Also costco sells a good codereader for $35

ik the guy who did it and he very well knows wtf hes doin. i forget the number he gave maybe 113? he jsut told me both banks were running lean and to add some injector cleaner that may help, but wuldnt clear it and he had another guy to help. but truck is running fine, only thing i noticed is a my mpg went from almost 19 down to 16.5 in one tank. wtf?

Had the same problem with my truck. It turned out to be a vaccuum leak on a 90 degree elbow. The elbow had a crack in it. With the engine running spray some carb cleaner around the engine and vaccuum lines listening for any change in rpm's. It that's not it it could be a leaky gasket on your intake manifold. Check for vaccuum leaks first since it's a cheap and easy check. Good Luck.

One of those cute little propane bottles. Ya turn it on and with the engine running you hose propane on all the vac gaskets and on the intake. If the engine picks up speed you have found the leak.

I agree with Tony L above; had the same code and it was a cracked rubber vacuum hose.

ok so did the whole spray thing and nuttin. sprayed every hose i culd and nuttin. how do i check teh o2 sensors?

Get a can of carb cleaner/ brake clean and spray it along the upper and lower intake/throttle body areas.

did that. sprayed it around all the intake all the hoses i could see and nothing, if it fixed itself would the light go off or do i need to get the code cleared?
