Engine knocking?

used engine will probably be cheaper and faster.

Definitely faster to pull the engine to rebuild. No crawling on the ground and working at weird angles. Plus, can have it hot tanked and bored ect to make sure everything is good as new.

How many miles do you got on it?

How often do you rev it above 3500-4000rpm? Do you "lug" the engine alot? Overheated it ever? Losing coolant into the oil?

All of these (and more) can directly affect engine life.

I think in the OP's case a rebuilt shortblock would pry be the best option.

Honestly, asking about low oil pressure and the relationship to engine noises does not instill confidence in mechanical abilities.

We all started someplace and learned as we went but an engine rebuild is not the best starting point.

Find a good shop in your area and have them do the replacement or rebuild.

Rebuilding an engine is fairly simple. Labor to get my 5.0 rebuilt was around 1000 for the machining and the new pistons and bearings. if everything is in good shape, it will be cheaper. (i had to buy pistons and that was 450 alone) Rebuilds have to be done outside considering they need EXTENSIVE cleaning and most likely some machining.
