So i have an 02 2.3 ranger 2wd, and recently it has been acting up. It started with falling back to idle badly, sometimes falling to correct idle and sometimes dropping to around two grand. And yester day it started at low rpm if you give it any gas at all the whole vehicle shakes and it keeps stalling and has no acceleration left. What is it?

do you have any codes? Does your CEL come on when the key is first turned on? Has it had a tuneup recently? have you changed the fuel filter recently?

Without knowing if you have any codes, a dirty or otherwise non-functioning MAF sensor can cause the problem you describe.

Sounds like an ignition coil as well, but I don't know if the -02s had two coil packs. Need more info.
