Hey guys,
A few weeks back I noticed my OHV had a pretty serious tick when it first started up but after some driving it went away. This has progressed a lot over the month to the point where it is going on almost all the time and I can hear it over my radio in the cab while on the highway.
So where I first thought this was normal I am becoming increasingly concerned that I am entering the final stretch of its life until I rebuild. This engine amazes me and I wont let it die. Has a misfire possibly a cracked head make great power and gets 18-20 mpg regularly on the highway.
I noticed it got much worse when I swapped my 3.73 rear end in. Not that I am really saying that did anything I am wondering if running the engine at a higher RPM has caused the extra wear.
Anyways I love the truck and have a lot of work to do on it. Just swapped out the rear end, Have a lift kit in my office that I am going to install in two weeks hopefully and a set of 31's in my storage locker.
I hope to have some fun with the engine too once I get it back to good health. I have two major though processes with the truck.
1. send the new heads off the the machine shop in edmonton get them to port, polish and do whatever the most effective valve job would be and then throw in a 410 or 422 cam with a real CAI which would be a snorkel for me.
2. Run a remote mount turbo from the y pipe and play with that. I know this one sounds a little more out there but its not really that crazy. It is actually much simpler than what options I get for performance on my bmw.
I need to weight the pro's and con's of each but the turbo seems a lot more cost effective and fun. I would also like to clarify that I am not looking to make big HP I know the OHV is not the best platform for that.
