I have a 1986 ford ranger 2.3l 4cyl gas and the front cover cracked. It bolts to the block keeping the oil in on the front of the crankshaft. I need help on where to buy one or if that's even what it is called.

I believe he is talking about this part. Front Engine Cover. This is a dealer only part and very hard to find now. I would call around to junk dealers and such. Probably the only way you will find one. I tried for months when I needed one for a Toyota 22R engine way back in 92. Finally just shelled out the 250.00 they wanted for it.

Is it steel or aluminum. You might try finding someone that can weld the crack.

makes sense now
yes if you can get welded do it

yes that part in the diagram is exactly what i needed. it is aluminum and no auto parts stores around me carry it. looks like a trip to the junk yard for me. thanks everyone :icon_thumby:

Might be quicker if you could get someone to weld it for you.

Where are you at?

Maybe someone here is close to you that has those skills and equipment.

In a pinch... JB Weld has been successfully used in several different applications.

I tried JB weld and another Aluminum Weld product when I went through this with my old Toyota 22R engine. Just doesn't hold up. Worked for about 300 miles and then boom water shooting out front cover. I wish it would have worked. Finally just went to the dealer and bought the part.
