engine degreaser

So my buddy the other day was outside spraying his engine. I just saw a big flume of particles flying in the wind. It smelled like lemons. So I run over and ask him what's goingon ( he has nno clue what he's doing with cars but wings it any ways)

He's spraying his engine with dollar store oven cleaner. Says a buddy told him it works just like engine degreaser.

Well he has now drove the car for several weeks and burnt on the cleaner so his engine looks like its been caught on fire and had salt poured on it.

Any one heard of this?

I know the oven cleaner will remove paint...

There are warnings on the label about using it on aluminum. Even strong detergents, dont play well with AL It would take paint off too. Not good for you either

Oven cleaner works great for removing burnt on grease. As with any aggressive cleaners, wash thoroughly otherwise it will look like a chemical spill that has ruined everything.
I can't image how bad it would look if it was never washed off and left on a running engine.

Super clean from Walmart is awesome. Rinse off with water

I have heard of using oven cleaner on an engine before. That's not an issue. It sounds like the real problem is your buddy skipped the step where he was supposed to rinse it off before driving.

Exactly. Does crap like that all the time. Ill try and get pictures. Its like white and black. Smells good tho
