I have a 98 ford ranger , when you accelerate enough to hit a passing gear or put a heavier load on the motor it completelly cuts out, the rpms drop from 3 grand to 0 in less than a second and go back. its not throwing any lights, tune up stuff is all new, a few people told me it could bethe transmission, its not slipping or over reving.

Any thoughts??

Correct description of a stopped up fuel filter...Change the filter and get back to us..

Changed

That was the first thing i changed and it didnt make a bit of difference. I sure wish it did though, any other ideas

Hellllllp

At this point the tps was replaced, idle air control valve, trans was checked out by a trans shop and they hooked it up to computer and no probs at all. So i was thinking fuel pump as well because there are still no engine lights and nothing coming up when you hook it up to the computer, how do i check the fuel pump circuit. Its only cutting out or missing klike this when you put a load on it, could an oxygen sensor do this? HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPP

o2 sensor wouldnt do that i dont think. you could try changing the fuel regulator on it. i had a bronco II that would fall on its face when you would try to accelerate, but when youre cuttin out that quick it makes me think its something else. if youre at a dead stop and you give it gas, does it do the same thing?

come to think of it... when i bought my explorer, it did that to. you would be going up a hill and it would do that. you could try putting new spark plugs in it. if that doesnt work, try changing the wires. BUT before you do that, go somewhere else to get your gas. Some fords have problems with gas. My dad had a 01 Ford f250 that hated regular fuel, we had to put the better stuff in it. Change gas stations and if that doesnt work, try upgrading to a better fuel.

Fixed

So thebad trans theory and motors junk theory is gone. So i yanked the wires to find that 3 of the plugs i just put in had wicked blow by between the steel and the porcelin which was blowing into the spark plug boots. so the plugs were crap and it cooked three wires, an hour later an it was like brand new
