I have a 96 ranger 3.0 I changed the thermostat in it to a 180 degree. It cools the engine fine when driving but when I stop like at a fast food drive thru or stop light it starts to heat up it goes way up the guage. Don't know what to do.

Your fan clutch may be bad is where I'd start. The clutch isn't locking up allowing for air flow at low speeds, at highway speeds there's plenty of air to not need the fan, but when you stop there's no air flow so if the fan clutch is bad it won't allow the fan to lock up and provide that needed cooling.

If the front side of the fan looks greasy/oily then its a good sign its bad. If you can spin the fan freely with the engine off of course its another sign that the fan clutch is bad, it should have a bit of resistance to it.

Thanks for the info WILD BILL I appreciate it.

Yes, for sure, fan clutch is bad

And change back to 192 or 195 thermostat when you get the chance, better MPG and cleaner oil.
