Engine Cleaners?

gunk foamy engine brite and a high pressure car wash

the only problems i have had was relays acting up if they get wet so try to keep them dry. i usually leave my engine idle while im doing it.

It's a 87 Ranger that wasn't the best taken care of. There was probably about 1/4" in some areas built up on the valve cover and alot more on the head and block.

Has anybody used any of the engine cleaners out there and have you had any success, I would like to clean up mine. When I pulled my valve cover off I cleaned it and now everything else looks really crappy.

I dunno; I'm pretty lazy, so I'd suggest just pouring some dirty oil on the clean valve cover to make it all look the same again.

Just kidding! I've used Gunk spray (lots of it) and a hose, after carefully wrapping the alternator, distributor, ect. in plastic and tape. Avoid hosing those parts directly, and use a brush on the caked stuff. Basic, messy method, but it's always worked pretty good for me.

I have an air powered spray gun tool; hook it up to compressed air, put the hose in any cleaner. I use mineral spirits; it blasts out at whatever psi you want. Then I put a fan on the engine to evaporate the residue. I disconnect the battery and put aluminum foil over the alternator, distributor, starter etc. Gunk Foamy Engine Brite works pretty good too. When I rinse that off with water, I always prop a big box fan over the engine compartment and let it run to evaporate the water...

Thanks for the tips, I like to be able to come on here and get real information.
