Never actually did this! Pretty sure I'll be getting the engine trans and T-case out of this 98 I'm checking out today (10/19) Yeah had a crate engine, transmissions etc. I'm thinking 2 or 3 tires and have the lift "gently" lay the whole assembly on them?
Don't want to separate things until I'm ready to start the project. (changing my 93 over to 5speed) I really hate crushed oil pans :bawling:

Be sure to tie if off so it can't slide forward.
Generally when using a rolling lift you can't get an engine all the way forward in the bed.

If you have to hit the brakes it WILL start moving and will not stop until it bends the front of the bed, or even breaks the back window.

Also make sure you have a plan to get it OUT at your place, a lift is fine but will it reach into the bed far enough and get enough height to clear the side.
So separating engine and trans may be better for removal.

what Ron said.

another thought would be to bring wood blocks and a pallet to support the engine. you can then tie the engine transmission combo to the pallet and also to the truck. the pallet will make it easier to slide toward the tailgate when you want to remove it.

SCORE! 62000 ON THE OD. Picking it up next week.. damn he already sold the 8.8 out from under it lol I'll put this engine in storage until the day comes that the Beast needs another. Only 133 on it's OD so far. $550 for the eng, trans, shifter and bezel, AND T-case.

Thanks for the advice everyone! We will be dropping in the bed of my friend's F150 big truck. and taking it up to his place in the mtns until I'm ready to move on this project,

I would set the whole thing on two tires. One under the engine, one under the back of the trans. Then slide it as far forward as you can, if you can get it touching the headgate that's best. Then run a couple straps around the exhaust manifolds, shoot for 4 total, and strap that sucker down tight.

You don't care if it can slide backwards because you can always control how smooth your launch is but you don't want to leave any room for it to jump forward because if you have to stop suddenly that whole thing could land in the front seat with you if it gets a running start.

Tires on a plastic bed liner slide nice and easy too.

wow.

i did not think this was a serious question...figured i was gonna see a pic of 3 engines and transmissions stuffed in there....

but, if a guy dont know it is definitely smart to ask. and great advice here imo:icon_thumby:

Never hurts to ask anything actually. Not Like driving directions, before we had GPS and how guys never get lost and always know where they are and always used to say with conviction "NAH DON'T NEED TO ASK!" :icon_rofl:

All I can say to that? Good thing the earth is round!:icon_thumby:

Pretty much the plan! thanks ASM and everyone. Yeah I've never actually hauled a complete engine trans and Tcase as one unit.. Glad it's not a Peterbuilt diesel! :shok:

I would take up any slack with a mounted tire or 2 going forward. If you are going to store the engine, backing off the bolts for the rockers will close all the valves. Just leave a note.:D

Great Idea Andy! thanks!
