emissions fail

Hey i have a 1993 ford ranger with a 4l v6 and its manual. I just took it for emissions and it fail, when i checked the plugs the right side of the engines plugs were brown and the left side the plugs were all white like that side of the engine was running lean. Some one said it was my o2 sensors. Can i prove that with and scanner? and if so where do i plug the scanner into my truck, i cant seem to find it.

Your OBD plug should be under the steering column (OBD-2 requires the plug to be within 2 feet of the wheel-this is where it is on my Ranger), otherwise look under the hood on the driver's side (I've seen it here on preOBD-2 ford like my friend's Tempos and Mustangs).

Does anyone know if you need to rest the computer when changing emission parts on the OBD systems and do you just disconnect the batt like on a EEC

it needs to be cleared on something and not others
i suggest fix it start it, if the light goes out,great. if not clear it

obd 2 didn't come about till 96
once parts are changed the computer needs to be reset, with a pre obd 2 you should just need to disco the negative from the battery for about 10 min & you should be good,
I would run some seafoam & than change the plugs before re testing

thanks alot every one it turns out it was my o2 sensors. Replacing them tomorrow and just put new plugs and wires and did a tune up. hope she passes!
