I have a 94 ranger and replaced 88 rearend with a 96. I didn't relieze that parts are that different between the years, but have new 96 rear brake cables , they wont reach? Driver side hooks right up but passengers will not reach without pulling the brake pads out, then the cable is to tight. Is there any way to make front one a little longer, I did not replace it. Back 2 cables were smashed and bent a little and frozen with brakes applied.I was thinking that the wheel bearings were bad? must have been the brakes. I got abs back so the light is off. I checked with local auto place and only 1 cable is different between 94 and 96 models if this wont fix problem what is cheap and easy way to go?????:icon_confused:
THANKS FOR ANY HELP

Good evening,

Cheapest and easiest is always to replace any part on a vehicle with an OEM replacement part of the same year. Now you are into fabrication with differnt year assemblies. It could be as hard as replacing the backing plates on the axle with the old parts. Or as simple as you have supercab cables that don't fit standard cab rangers. Parts "specialist" at stores can only read a computer (no offense to any mechanics holding the job) and go to location to pick a box.

Good luck

I was wondering if there was any way to get any slack from the front cable where it attachs to the peddle?

Yeah, grab it and pull it. The ranger has a rather interesting self adjusting parking brake system. If you only need some slack for a moment just pull it out and hold it. If you want it to stay out for a bit then you'll need to remove the trim panel over the brake assembly, and somewhere in the middle of the unit you'll see a little oval shaped hole, pull the cable all the way out and stick a little allen wrench in there. Some people say drill bits, but I've found they break too easy. With the wrench in there you should be able to let go of the cable and the wrench will hold the adjuster.
