eliminating the ABS from my truck

When did they get away from the tcase speed sensor. My 97 uses the tcase

I believe it was in either 98 or 99. Correct me if I am wrong there guys. The 99 Explorer I got for my donor vehicle has the sensor in the rear end.

98 was the changeover year, some had it, some didn't...

Doesn't Ranger go back to transmission/transfer case OSS sensor in '01.

'88-94 mechanical
'95-97 VSS in transmission/transfer case
'98-00 RABS/VSS in rear differential
'01-11 OSS in transmission/transfer case

There is a VSS in the transmission/transfer case for earlier vehicles. My '88 had one. I'm still using it with the 92 ECU. The speedometer is mechanical still though.

No, as of 99, the vss (vehicle speed sensor) uses the rear axle tone ring used for abs (abs sensor sends signal to abs module, signal gets corrected and sent to ecu/instrument cluster - not the exact method, but for descriptive purposes). The oss (output speed sensor) is not used for the speedometer, it is used to determine slippage in automatic transmissions...
