i have an electric fan i pulled off some car a while back and the holes are in the right place to bout in place of the shroud auto zone sell a temp sensor to kick the fan on and off the have a preset one that iis suppost to kick it on at 185 F and shut off at 170 F would this be alright to use or should i look in to something else i have my underdrive pulleys coming and i want to free up all the power i can

Sounds pretty close to what I have, except mine is adjustable for temps. It should be fine. You'll like the pullies and e-fan. I did them at the same time, and noticed a pretty decent change. Be sure and let us know how it goes, and what kind of gains you see/feel.

im running one of the preset ones, kicks on at 185* and off at 170* (Hayden part no. 3652). im running a 16" Hayden fan set up as a "puller" and ive had no problems so far after 24,000 miles, but the cheap ass relay they provided with the switch shorted out so i replaced it with a bosch one, but other than that the fan, switch, and wiring are still all going strong.

real world knowledge? what kind of fuel economy were you able to see after the upgrade?

economy improvement is not a guarantee with this, well it is, but it is too small to measure at the low end, depends on drive cycle. you will see a definate measurable gain if your current situation is running the current fan above its "disengaged" point. you will get some power back. but you may not notice it either.

i like to tee in a sender/switch in the coolant bypass to control the fan relays.

for this application probably use an 88 type mustang 4 cyl switch..

8 gauge wire for fan power/ground

40 amp fuse and relay. ((bigger fan one could siamese 40 amp relays as big relays are usually hard for most to find local))

i run the ground side of the relay switch on a 3 way 40 amp switch for off road applications. auto - off - manual on.

power side of relay switch on key source.

the load side of relay i usually run the fused power through to the fan

ground...well..ground.

the fan variance is hard to deal with. generally though biggest one that fits usually works and is overkill....without knowing the exact fan you have its tough to recommend the best setup to power it.

Thanks for the input Bobby. purchased an e-fan from o' reilleys couple months back just waitin to install when i pull the engine for oil leak, freeze plug replacement, exhaust manifold gasket and beautification purposes.
