Electronic transfer case troubles

Hi fellas,
i've got a 1990 B2 XLT that i just love to death so I've been a member for a little while but haven't posted much 'till now.

the other day i started having trouble with my transfer case not shifting out of 4-low. i rebuilt the electric moter on the back of the transfercase and all seemed to be working great! ...untill about 30min later when i tried to show my wife what a great job i did fixing the truck.

so i'm back where i started. i can figit with the electric moter and get it to work... when it feels like it. (it could be the position sensor on the moter's gearbox)

BUT i have a feeling the problem isnt in the electric moter. when it decided to work for me this afternoon i noticed that there was a realay like clicking sound comming from behind the driver's seat. so i took a panel off and found this:

...what is this?? does this have anything to do with the transfer case?
i looked through my chilton's book and couldnt find anything on this.

any help would be great!

it does look a bit like one, but it doesnt wire up like one. i really think it has something to do with the tranfer case. (but i don't know)

i would say "screw it!" and get a shiftster but right now, the wife drives the B2 more than i do and she really doesnt want to get under the truck to shift.

It may look like an amp, but it has nothing to do with your radio.

Its the 4x4 shift module. SO, yes it has everything to do with your t-case.

Which tcase do you have. The build date will tell you. If before 9/89 its a BW1350, after its a BW1354. The best thing to do is to find a Manual t case of which ever one you need. You can pick one up for anywhere from 100 to 200 bucks. The shifter cutout is there already.

If you need another shift motor for a 1350 let me know, I'll have one available on Mon.
I'm switching over to manual this weekend. Tired of fightin the elec t case.

Even if you have the 1350, I believe the 1354 will work, it is more desireable because it has a regular yoke on the front, whereas the 1350 has a slip yoke.

thanks for the help!! the more i read about these things the more i realize that a manual t'case is better. i'll have to look up the build date and let you know. (build date of the t'case? or the truck?)

13-50:

13-54:

The 13-54 has a shorter front output and a fixed yoke.
The 13-50 has a longer front output and a slip yoke.
