hey guys new to this forum, need a litle help

2003 ranger 4.0 4x4
when we put the truck in reverse the transfer case makes a noise similar to if you were to put the tranny into park before you have come to a complete stop. so i have been told it is a detent cable issue but it is electronic so i would assume there is no detent?? i have aslo been told the reason for this sound is that the shift ford that actuates the 2wd into 4wd is moving without being "told to" is it the motor that actuates this shift fork or something else??

any help would be greatly appreciated
Johnny

If I had to take a wild guess from your description...

The wear pads on the tips of the shift fork are worn out (or damaged) and allowing the T-case to not full engage in gear.

Atleast, that's something I've ran into a few times.
