Electrical testing; nothing makes sense...

Adsm08, all of the engine sensor pins in the LB3 are the same function as the LA3, from what I found. The only difference are the pins designated for the transmission control functions.

On a much lighter note, I gave up on the search for my LB computer. I went ahead and took the computer out of my car (PC1, not PK1 like I said earlier) and put it in my ranger. I made sure to swap the correct pins around (25, 43, 32, and 27) too. I gave a final check to the grounds and turned the key to "on". Voltage checks on all of the sensors were exactly within the range they should've been, and this time I didn't have any +5v on Signal Return.

I then cranked the engine over and it fired, immediately. I let it warm up, and it slowly idled down into what sounded like the low to mid 800 RPM range; I also did not have a CEL.

I went ahead and tried to check codes, and for once I SUCCEEDED! I only had one code showing, and I'm about to go find out what it means.

So, my lesson is that computers CAN go bad WITHOUT completely NOT working.

Also, does anyone know how to fix a computer that has gone bad?

I have a working understanding of how to repair a damaged circuit board that is accompanied by absolutely no ability to actually perform the task.

IME it's kinda one of those things, if you have to ask, you probably shouldn't try.

Hahaha! The same goes for far too many of us, at least, in something or another.

IME = In My Experience?

Also, yeah, I wouldn't try it either. Perhaps someone does, though. I'll just make another thread about that topic.

Oh, earlier today I was going through some posts about this particular issue over on TurboTbird.com and found someone who had the same issue as I, with the +5v on signal return. Someone said that it was caused by a short in a sensor, and that was the only thing said about it.

I now can confirm that it is also caused by a bad ECU.
