Electric fan install?

holy old thread batman.

Just because he lives in Minnesota doesn't mean he is giving bad advice. Pull your head out of your ass.

Well Maurice, check out this thread from R-F, specifically post #7. This guy is
"PRO MOD", and admits to cooling problems, and AC problems with an e-fan, and UDP in Michigan!!!

Where has your head been????? You didn't understand MAKG's point at all!!!:icon_rofl::icon_rofl::icon_rofl::icon_rofl:

Again jackass, as long as it is installed properly an electric fan will be fine.

I am getting real sick of your "I know it all" attitude. I will say again, I ran an efan in 100* weather without any problems.

MAKG...
Thanks for the compliment....
You're in Minnesota. (YIPEE!)
Will you guarantee the work for someone living in central Nevada in summer? If not, you're giving bad advice. You're generalizing your situation outside its validity.

You're hearing the clutch on startup? Dang, you replaced a broken clutch, and claimed the working one was better. A stock replacement would have been better as well.

Thing is, competent engineers also understand test controls. Some technicians do, many do not. You're the latter.

I've lived in So CA a few years and that was too long.
Yes many good things come from the west coast.
Nevada? no thanks..hope my Ranger never sees it.
Sorry if I was too general for ya..by golly.
Validity is only as good as the situation.
I don't think any Ranger will work in outerspace.

No broken clutch. No clutch noise on start up....only fan noise...
don't need all that air blowing around when its +32 or -32 degrees outside.

No bad feelings about either engineers or technicians, if both would do
their job, we wouldn't have to do so many mods to correct hurry up
production mistakes. Been an IEEE member for many years
and see changes go from cheap to cheaper to China.

I worked for a company who's motto was
"The quality goes in before the name goes on"
Then the next company I worked at, it was reversed....
"The name goes on before the quality goes in"

Maybe that's where I heard the line about the differences
between techs and engineers. And then there are the marketing folks.....
I worked many years in field service correcting mistakes from
design flaws....maybe from incompetent engineers,
or from marketing promises that could not be met.

The Jim Oaks premise for starting the ranger station forum was for
"improvements " as Ford made an underpowered off-road vehicle.
(See the "About" on the home page)
That is true for the older 2.9 and 3.0s, not necessarily for the newer SOHC 4.0
Perhaps a stock fan works better on a 4.0 with more low end torque.

Hummm...its kind of funny that on the other 5 vehicles that I own,
none need the help as much as the 3.0 Ranger....probably designed to meet
some federally mandated epa guidline for averaging mpg rating so that Ford
could make greater number of bigger trucks.

I certainly hope that things can turn around for the auto makers,
whether it is by help from forums like this one, or by a quality improvement process.

Good sign that Ford is not asking for as much as others in the bail out.
If the quality of new Rangers does not merit people clamering to buy new
ones, they should close the St. Paul plant. The local headlines do not look good.

Oh darn, I should not even be in this 4.0 forum,
all of my concerns have been with the underpowered 3.0
I will have to exit now before I am kicked off.

BYE to all of you sincere, kind and funny folks !!!

diesel

Here is a picture of a diesel with four electric fans.:icon_rofl:

???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Bird, you totally missed the point about diesels! I was trying to make a point about cooling capacity, and diesel vehicles require much more cooling capacity than ANY e-fan can deliver!!!!

If anybody can understand this, I thought you would!!

Hate to bust your bubble bud but I drove a big cat front end loaded for a while that got by just fine with its e-fan. And trust me we dogged the crap out of it unloading log trucks and anything else that came along. And with the engine in the rear with the fan behind it you dont get any air flow from outside without the fan pushing it in.

Great fan pics from a diesel....

What one doesn't know before they try.

Yours look like what I did to the Ranger shroud without the efan brackets.
Sorry that I can't share my pics of efan install. Fits really good.

It's better to use the factory shroud for mechanical support
and to funnel the air to the efan than just using the brackets by themselves.

If it works, don't knock it. If it don't work, fix it.

My TwoBits

Yeah, wow.. Im only going to tell you what happend to me, and you all can use it for whatever.

1) I did have the clutch fan fail once, it stayed on all the time. I always wanted to be an astronaut and it sounded like the space shuttle launch but I replaced it anyway.

2) I experienced times when the air conditioning barely worked when idling. After checking and rechecking everything in the system, I finally figured out that there simply was not enough air flow through the condenser because the clutch fan was not on all that much. I installed two cheep 10" fans in front of the radiator (pushing) and hooked up to only a switch on the dash. (on/off). Now when the air starts dying I just turn them on. And in the 3 years Ive run this setup I have had to replace both fans (with a different supplier).

I just have one problem with all this. NO ONE HELPED AT ALL. I’m trying to install a fan not find out if people thing it’s a good idea. So if anyone knows what type of “Efan” would be best please say something

any oem fan that will fit.

i run a huge engine and radiator so i use the lincoln intech fans....i use them on duramax trucks as well and a few big fords. the windstar and escape fans have been in my engine bay as well just to see what they could do.

in this case, 2004 or so single from an escape or a fan from an escort will work pretty good depending on your actual original configuration. for an oem power level ranger it will out cool the stock fan and free up a few ponies at max load.

like i have always said though...the oem setup is very effective and robust so replacing it is not usually worth the effort for the average bear.

look at the various setups with a tape measure and go from there.
