What must be done to do this swap? Is it a simple act of dropping the case in there, lifting up a junkyard jewel manual T-case, cutting a hole in the floor and hooking up the new shifter? Or is there more to it?

I already plan on an auto to manual hub swap.

Thanks, I'm looking at buying a 94 Ranger 4.0 5 speed and the electric/auto 4x4 is the only real weak part in it all....

Sweet. Any idea how much labor is involved, or if anything comes apart and goes together relatively easy?

i'm currently doing this swap in my b2.....the bolts that connect the tranny to the t-case will take some extra elbow grease, but other than that it'll be pretty easy. i dont think you need to cut the floor either, my b2 has a plate around the shifter that you pull up and you can install the t-case linkage/shifter there.

its a pain in the ass to get to the top bolts...but they will come out just takes some fenagleing

Could I pull a few mounts and lower the whole setup a bit (pretty much every mount except front engine mounts) to make it easier to get the top bolts?

I didnt have that much trouble with the upper bolts. i used a box wrench and 3 pound mallet and they came right off.

Ratcheting 1/2 inch wrench. I wouldn't ever pull a T-case without one. Don't forget the Ratcheting 12mm and 8mm wrenches...(Driveshafts)

The truck you get the T case from, should have a bolt in floor plate. Swap it in for yours, and you shouldn't need to do any cutting of the floor. (Provided you find one with the same tranny)

look at Plumcrazy's build thread, he rigged his manual t-case to turn the dash lights on
