Ok so I know I have a path forward with the elec pump I bought by re routing the lines and taking out stock pump etc.. I believe baddad gave a pretty good post on how to do it.

But Im looking for some other options with using the Mr. Gasket 12S pump. Is there any way I can just put this in line with my fuel line from the in tank pump to "regulate" the pressure down to 4-7 psi for my carb application as a in line regulator would do?

I like the idea of hooking the vent to the air cleaner but here in Ontario we have pretty strict e-test laws and even running under custom (hotrod) class Im likely to fail..

Also, what about a mech fuel pump.. is it possible for this thing to fit on Ranger applications.. I don`t have a picture handy of the space between steering shaft and block off plate but I`ve heard this is possible..

Thx in advance guys,
Ck.

You would be better of to just get a regular fuel regulator than to try to make a fuel pump do what it isn't meant to do. I don't know if the Mr Gasket pump really regulates it to carb friendly pressures or if 7psi or whatever is all it can put out.

The mechanical fuel pump is a swap to swap thing, I have heard it works for some but there is no way it would work on mine.

The 12S pump needs no regulator, so feeding it thru the intank pump won't do what you're thinking it'll do. If you're concerned about passing an emissions test, I hardly think you'll do it with a carb, much less have to worry about the tank being vented to the aircleaner. This is where the tank fumes end up anyway, so I can't see why it won't work, other than it's too f*#*ing simple for a government bureaucrat's satisfaction. These people have a way of over complicating solutions to simple problems.

When the tank "burps" when it gets warm out it is going to fill the engine compartment with gas fumes, any little spark and... :scare:

No, it will not. The fumes(little as they may be) will be contained inside the filter. I ran my Ranger like this for the better part of ten years, in all kinds of weather. It gets up to 100 here, more under the hood when it's sitting in the sun and the vapor problem is even worse in the spring when we get 90* days in spring before the change to "summer gas" with a lower RVP, and still no explosions. :icon_thumby: So, once again, government comes up with a complicated solution that costs us all, for a simple, easy to fix "problem", that's really no problem at all. Th efumes that do end up inside the filter, will actually tend to help prime the engine when you do go to start it.

so did you run your mr gasket through the out line of your existing fuel pump? Im doing the same work on mine, installing an electric 4-7 psi for my carbureted v8. If not, what did you do? Thanks, A

@"bad dog" lol. I agree, screw the man. And Im trying to hook up my stock cluster and I hear you have some good threads for wiring the existing tacho to work. Would you mind posting that thread? Mahalo! Was a 91' XLT 4.0 V6

I fed mine from the return line. The tach on my 89 had two adjusters on the backside that could be turned to get the readout to match another tach.

Sorry guys been super busy and havent had time to mess with the ranger in a lil while..

I believe Im just gonna get a regulator for the fuel line and still vent the return into the air cleaner.. **** emissions.. If needed Ill get a F*ke from somewhere.. Still got till next Feb to figure it out haha.. F*ck Canada, well mostly Ontario and there damn stupid regulations.

Right now its a matter of getting the engine back out, doing all cooling systems and then back to fuel problems before wiring the beast up.. Im sure there will be more questions in the near future and all the help im very much appreciated!

I plan to run the same pump for my 302 swap. Currently I'm running my 2.8 off a return line (usr to have a 2.3 fi in it) but the good news for me is I dont have to worry about emissions.
