Hey all, my 97 OHV 4.0 needs a new EGR valve. I've got it, but the entire piping system is rusted to the point of it's not gonna come apart. The only option i can see is replacing the tube/pipe that screws into the rear of the driver's side manifold, but I can't figure out how to get on it to turn it. I've doused it several times with Blaster hoping to loosen it up. Suggestions on getting to it?

The fitting into the Exhaust manifold is basically a compression fitting.

So the outer hex is the "nut" and the inner hex is the fitting itself....

considering it's attached to an exhaust manifold I seriously doubt that heat will hurt it.

So I'd suggest turning a torch n it, heat it till it glows and try unscrewing it again...

You might want to determine the correct wrench size while it's cool though...

Thanks. It's the getting to it is what's concerned me. I'm thinking I can maybe get in through the wheel well. I'll give it a whirl this weekend and keep you posted.

Done deal. I did use a little heat to break the tube loose on the manifold, but it took the whole fitting, twisting the tube and all. I had a spare setup so I cut the tube about halfway through with a hacksaw blade and then turned the fitting(s) and committed to breaking the tube the rest of the way off. And had to go through the wheel well, 1/16th at a time. I got the fitting out, had to dremel the compression nut off, cleaned up the threads, added anti-seize, and reinstalled everything. Seems to be running just fine now. Thanks :)
