EGR Tube problem

I have a 98 Ranger 2.5L 4cyl. I noticed that I was throwing the P0401 code for the DPFE Sensor. Well I looked at the egr tube and one of the tubes is hanging off the DPFE sensor. It seems the nipple broke off the EGR tube. My car has a decent sized hole now under my hood and causing my ranger to run improperly. Any suggestions?

The EGR tube connects to the EGR valve with two bolts and on the other end threads into the exhaust manifold. If one of the two ports broke off where the rubber hoses slip on, I'd just remove the tube and replace it with one from the junkyard or have the port welded back on. Removing the tube isn't too bad, iirc, you need to rotate it and move it around a bit to get it out of the back of the engine. I'm sure some guys on here would just disconnect the EGR system by plugging the vacuum line on the EGR valve and the broken port, but I'm more of a "keep it stock" guy.

I agree with keeping it stock. I always keep everything as I found it. Most people don't care about the EGR system, but it will actually give you a very small increase in gas mileage.

Getting a tube off a junkyard Ranger is harder than it sounds (exhaust stuff is always rusty...exhaust stuff sitting for 10 years is even rustier), but you'll never find them anywhere else. Bring a lot of PB B'laster and be patient, you may have to keep coming back and soaking it and keep telling the counter guy they don't have what you want.

:icon_pepsi: Just as long as you don't catch anyone else eyeballing the same Ranger!
