'93 2.3 Five speed, 149,000 on the clock..as mentioned a few days ago..throwing 332 code..EGR system..I can remove it easily and check the tube to the exhaust manifold..my question is..if the EGR is dead...or..the tube clogged..will that cause the truck to be somewhat sluggish..and have a slight miss ?? The CEL doesn't come on until I drive about a mile..at that point..I seem to detect a slight miss and sluggish acceleration..truck idles fine...and runs well at highway speed..Thanks...

Yes, it could be, if EGR system is not working correctly the EGR valve may be opening a little when it shouldn't, that would cause sluggishness as the fuel/air mix is not correct for adding exhaust gas.
No EGR flow(clogged tube) would usually cause pinging/knock when accelerating

Thanks...will pull the valve this weekend..it looks rusty on the back side...I'll run the dipstick down the tube to see if it's blocked...

Going to tackle the EGR problem today..I've looked at all the vacum lines and can't find any that are broken...although they do look brittle..Will someone explain the relationship with the DPFE sensor and the EGR valve ?/ Would either throw the 332 code ?? and where is the DPFE sensor ? Any other tips on the EGR problem related to code 332 appreciated...thanks...pj

When the EGR valve opens the DPFE measures the amount of exhaust flowing into the engine. The DPFE is the most likely cause of any EGR code. They have a very high fail rate

Thanks..I'll see if I can find the DPFE on the truck..also forgot to mention I do have vacum at the EGR valve..but doesn't feel like very much compared to what I feel at other vacum lines..

I've been looking carefully for the DPFE sensor..yet I can not see one on my 93 2.3...does this year have a DPFE sensor..I remember my '96 had one..I know that they look like..but I can't locate one under the hood..thanks again..

AHHH...Found a PDF file from Ford..no DPFE sensor on the '93 2.3 four..but the 3.0 and 4.0 do have them...Now to pull the EGR valve...

if you dont see 2 hoses coming off the egr tube you dont have a DPFE.

the egr valve is supposed to have weak vacuum, it is controlled by a vacuum solenoid. the valve should have a sensor on top of the diaphragm to measure how far the valve is opened. if you apply vacuum to the EGR valve and the engine dies the valve is ok, make sure it is able to hold a vacuum also

Thanks...updates later..now..to get dirty hands...

DPFE sensor should look like this:

egr valve off..aftr removing the throttle body to get a wrench on the pipe..i know do the exhaust and then remove it...but no way to get the truck in the air..not a big deal..anyway the end that attached to the pipe is heavliy carboned..and i aasume you shold be able to press the ittle pin and make it move the diaphram..wich i can't..so..unless you guys have any other ideas..i'm going sfter an egr in a fe minutes..the actuator on the end of the egr moved freely..so i assume that is ok..thanks again...

looked again..no PFE sensor there..i did a quick video..is here a way to post it here ??

The credit card is 90 dollars heavier...but it appears the EGR valve was the problem..so corroded and coaked up the would not move...Drove it about five miles with no CEL..before it would come on within 1/2 mile..much smoother, and I can tell a difference in the way it runs...although I still detect a slight miss..no telling how old the plugs and wires are...this truck had sat for six years prior to me getting it from another person..he had the tank cleaned, new fuel pump, and cat...Anyone have a magic tip for removing the back two plugs on the drivers side ??...I've done it..but it sure is an ordeal...thanks for all the help..Bet I have more questions...sooner rather than later...pj
