I broke the egr down tube when rebuilding my engine and I can't find a replacement part. It comes off the egr under the intake and runs down the fron of the engine into the exhaust manifold. All the junk yards around me have nothing. If anybody knows where to find one or if u have one that's in decent shape, id gladly take it off your hands.

should be the same part for any ranger with a 2.8, 2.9 or 4.0 OHV. that includes bronco and explorer. they all use the same headers IIRC.

wait, i thought 4.0's didn't have an egr setup?
maybe i'm just toooo tired and delirious

I had the same problem and after a lot of searching found that none seem to be available. I solved my problem by repairing the old one. The OD of the stock tube is 5/8" which will fit inside of a 3/4" copper tube. I then wrapped it with an exhaust bandage (available at local auto stores) then coated it with JB Weld. It's been holding up good. Caution on trying to disconnect the tube from the Exhaust fitting. Soak it good several times with Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster. If you strip the nut you are in "deep Kempshi". Also coat the threads with anti seize compound before you reinstall.

Good Luck,

It broke at the manifold. It was so thin it just fell apart. What if I used copper tubing that matched and used the original fittings? It could easily be bent the same but would it make a difference? Would it work?:icon_confused:

Don't know why it wouldn't if you can get it to work with the original fittings. The melting point of copper is 1,980 degrees F. The original tube has a fiberglass sleeve as an insulator - probably not necessary unless you touch it when it's hot or it comes in contact with a wire or vacuum tubing. I remember someone else on the forum saying he replaced his with copper tubing. If mine breaks again I will try that route.

By trhe way the Ford Part # is E7TZ-9D477-F for my '87. The secong character denotes the year E6TZ would be for an '86 etc..

Thanks feedom. Ill go get the tubing today and gice it a try. Ill post ptc when I get it made and installed.

Sucks to deal with, I snapped one on my Tempo, but had a spare engine to take one from. Concerns about stripping are valid ones; I ripped the threads right off of one of the fittings in the manifold, but luckily had enough parts to make it right again. :annoyed:

I have one in good shape if your plan to make one fails.
PM me a mailing address and I'll ship it (you pay).

If Neverdone86 doesn't want it, offer is open to whomever.

If this photo is still showing up, I still have the tube. Came off an 86 engine, IIRC. It's missing the reducer that threads into the exhaust manifold.

Photo deleted.
Tube has a new owner.
