Soo I am new to this forum so let me start off. Bought a 1996 4x4 extended cab with the 4.0 for $600, has a tired 4.0 and am looking to slowly put together items for a swap. I will be looking for a 90's f150 or an explorer.

I know the wiring harness for the explorer is pretty straight forward, dunno about the F150.

As for the axles will the stock ones be ok? Recommendations?
What all has to be done for the steering?
How much does the tranny tunnel have to be modified and would the explorer x member work for the ranger frame? (Im sure ill have to drill new holes.)
Fuel pump wise the stock 4.0 should work perfect correct?

I have driven a 96 F250 for the past 2-3 years that is around 450hp so I suppose the 4.0 bores me with no giddy up and go.

Final note, I have done searching on here it just seems that a lot of info is jumbled for the EFI swaps.

Thanks guys!

Your stock axles are fine until they break. (Your 8.8 rear is def not weak)

No steering mods needed.

No tunnel mods needed. I rolled the pinch seem for something to do, wasn't necessary. Also trimmed the hole for my shifter by almost 3/4".

Ex crossmember may work, but you only need to modify the stock one by less than two inches. Depends on your trans, I suppose.

Stock fuel pump is fine.

F150 wiring harness, you'll be reading diagrams, but it's not rocket surgery ;)
With the Ex or a Mustang harness, it's very easy.

Google F150 harness though. Somebody somewhere has do it, in a Ranger, a Miata, an Rx7, a volvo... An old Bronco... Where ever people toss a SBF.
