want to build a new motor and tune it out myself, however not much options tuning my eec4 92 ranger 2.3. since all your tuners are designed for the 95up eec5 computer setup, and if i had a donor vehicle (jy parts rob 10:1...) how hard would it be to convert the eec4 harness and computer to the eec5? also i understand they installed a cam position sensor on the eec5 trucks, where is this located and what is required to put it in? i.e. headswap cuz of direct mount in the head or is it on the balancer shaft? thanx for any and all info.

You wouldn't be "converting" harnesses, you would be pulling all the harnesses from the donor, replacing the ones in your truck, and then converting them back to the old system for things like the cab. There are also extra sensors (O2, Evap Purge Valve, CPS) that you have to add.

As for the CPS, it's near the Aux Shaft Pulley.

IMHO, you're asking for a lot of trouble for a few HP. A lot of people wish they had an EEC-IV system. Just do a search for P1443.

my eec4 truck has an oxygen sensor and evap purge valve already installed the only sensor it does not have from my reading is the cam position sensor. the reason i want to convert it to eec5 is because i can get an actual tuner and tune the engine out with a wideband system, whereas the eec4 you can only chip, and i cant find anybody that makes chips anymore, or standalone which im not tuning out since this is my daily driver. i plan on building a longblock but id rather build a 2.5 or larger and swap it in rather than another 2.3, i want more power off the bottom for takeoff/hills. i realize its a pain trust me ive looked into it just wanted to see if it had been done and talk to somebody that has done it. the other reason is unlike a fully tuneable standalone is it already has the stock settings in the computer i can simply move the fuel around rather than have to completely make the whole thing, along with the fact that there is no dyno within 250 miles of me. thank you for your reply any other info is greatly appreciated. as for the gages the only one that works currently is my speedo and it likes to act up (read rite then 20mph over) and i plan on installing aftermarket gages anyway.

You only have one O2 sensor; OBD 2 requires an upstream and downstream. You will have to add another O2 sensor after your cat.
