Edelbrock 1404 Rich

i read up on edelbrock.com about how to do it, i got a basic understanding now.

I went ahead and tried it myself. All 4 jets Primary and Secondary i went down 1 size. I went 1 size larger rods and 1 size stiffer spring. I tested the truck and here are my results:

Better throttle response off the idle. The idle itself is kind of rough. Once i hit 3,000 rpm in Park it made a Pop sound out the pipes.

I am going to adjust the timing tomorrow and ill get back to you guys on my findings

changing the timing did nothing..plugs still black..so i knew it was too rich still

I read up more on the Edelbrock website and tuned my carb for the Stage 3 lean on Power and Cruise, its deffinetly running better but the plugs are ghost white now..i think i went too lean.

you adjust the idle mixture too?i am going to look at the website,i'm curious now.

i used a vac gauge to adjust the idle and got 20 hg in @ 2 turns out on each screw.

However, i couldn't find anything about what spring to use..they come in different sizes..so i stuck with the Orange stock spring which is 5 hg in

im going to try stage 2 lean on power and cruise. Hopefully the plugs burn brown in color so i dont get any spark knock. Currently my throttle response is great, and WOT gained, but WOT is still not maxing like it should, it must be a lean condition under heavy load.

sounds like you need to know vacuum at wot.5 may be to low.holley goes 1/2 of idle vacuum.so if 18 inches at idle,9 for power valve,or 8.5.

not sure about edelbrock, maybe you should contact tech assistance at edelbrock and see what they have to say.it's free and may save alot of head scratching.

im gonna give em a call soon and see what they say. Thx for the tips Skip.

i got my carb tuning kit today. Im kind of confused as to what the numbers mean

Metering Jets
.083 .089 .092 .098

Metering Rods
.057" x .049"
.062" x .052"
.063" x .047"
.068" x .052"
.067 x .055"

Metering Rod Springs
blue - 3 in hg
yellow - 4 in hg
orange - 5 in hg
pink - 7 in hg
silver 8 in hg

I need to lean the carb down a bit since my plugs are black. Does the smaller the jet , rods, springs give less fuel? I figure i will have to experiement a bit with it, but i dont have an owners manual to know what all this stuff means, alil basic help would help me alot!
since i'm like a huge fan of edlebrock maybe i can help:pray::pray:on your jets and rods, those numbers are what they appear to be, their size in thousands of an inch. the color and number on the springs is the the staging number, which means that is the vacuum point needed for the spring to push up the metering rod for increased fuel delivery under mid to wide open throttle.to properly tune your carb you will need to have a vacuum gauge, reliable tachometer, and FWIW run as much initial spark advance as possible without pinging under load and hook your advance to driverside port on front of carb. also any and ALL calibration proceedures can be done without removal the carb. google Volvord 784VC Edelbrock Carburetor and hit "i'm feeling lucky" any questions shoot me a m,essage and i'll see if i can help
