My credo
Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you.
Does anyone know who carry's an ECU/ECM for my 93 Ranger 4.0 Automatic OHV. Its good to know just in case mine soils the bed. I had to replace one on my 1995 Honda Accord a year ago. I can't seem to locate any dealers online.

"Rebuilt" 1994 and earlier PCM(ECM) just means they replaced the 3 capacitors in the computer and cleaned the circuit board and 60 pin connection
Under $5 in parts

If you or a friend can solder then just replace the Caps and save some money
You do need to pull the computer and look at the 3 capacitors to get the numbers off them, as Ford used different ones

OR Google: Ford PCM capacitor repair kit

They do sell 5 or 6 capacitors in a kit that "usually" will have 3 that will match what yours needs, $15

There is no "testing" for these, not even Ford could test PCMs just swap them out, so buying another one doesn't mean it has been tested since there is not test
Best you can do is to hook up an OBD1 reader and see if PCM can "talk" with the reader, thats the only test, lol

No such thing as a 2WD or 4x4 PCM in a Ranger, in any year
4x4 system from 1983 thru 2011 was a separate system

PCMs were specific for
Engine size
MAP or MAF
EGR or no EGR
Manual or Automatic
Some years had knock sensor, most did not

There was no connection between 4x4 system and PCM until 2001
And then it was just 1 Speed signal wire, from PCM to 4x4CM, and 1 4Low indicator wire from 4x4CM to PCM so it could change the Speed MPH signal for the speedometer when in 4low

Ok I'm going to go on the Rock Auto website now. I'm gonna send a photo of what they have...

Not sure a photo will help, all EEC-IVs pretty much look the same on the outside

Part number for a 1993 Ranger PCM will be F37F-12A650 or F37Z-12A650

That's for any 1993 Ranger regardless of engine or transmission
The end digits and the other number STAMPED onto the label tell what its for, engine size and transmission type
And Ford never released a cross-reference for those

@RonD ok these are the basic choices for the ECU. Which one should I get? I have an XLT Super Cab Auto Transm.

Assuming all are for 4.0l engine
None of them

Calif emissions means engine must have an EGR system and Cam sensor and its wiring, so you want Federal emissions, no EGR and no Cam sensor
And you have an automatic
None listed are for an automatic with Federal emissions, just manuals

Thanks, that's what I thought.

You could try fs1inc: https://www.fs1inc.com/

Never used them just see their ads, reviews are not awful

EDIT: they don't seem to list 4.0l Ranger for 1993, just 1993 Explorer and Aerostar 4.0ls
Same for 1994, 93/94 were the same

I Just checked. It doesn't have a selection for a 4.0 engine. It seems rather peculiar.

@RonD, They said they can repair or upgrade my original ECU for $550.
I was just on live chat with them.

Too much in my opinion

I would chance a used one, depending on price

check at car-part.com

part you want is "Computer Box Engine"
enter your Zipcode then Search

It will then ask engine size and transmission, AT(auto) MT(manual)
As said 2WD or 4x4 doesn't matter so you can use either

If you see a matching suffix, the 2 to 4 letters after F37F, then pick that one
1993 or 1994 will work

I was seeing $50 to $75 in my area

I would change the 3 capacitors just on speculation, under $5, if you get a used one

And just to confirm, your 1993 4.0l Ranger does NOT have an EGR valve or a Cam sensor, so is Federal emissions

Thanks @RonD , There's a few on eBay, and they are priced reasonably around $150. Rebuilt
