So this thing has been making a strange noise, not loud but definitely noticeable. It almost sounds like an electric motor buzzing. It varies with the RPMs but stops completely when you let off the gas. Because of the way it varies with the engine rpm I'm thinking its the turbo but its obviously not your typical old school turbo whistle.

I can't pinpoint where it's coming from and it's too new to be messing around with it.

Is this normal for the EcoBoost engines or should I go to the dealer to play the classic "describe the noise" game while the service writer looks at me like a moron? :dunno:

Did it just start doing it?

take it to the dealer.

If they say it is normal, ask to test drive a new one with the same engine and ask them why it isn't normal in the new truck?

I honestly don't know how long it's been doing it, could have been since new. It's my mom's edge and the thing could be on fire and she wouldn't notice. I don't drive it much and when I do I almost always have the windows down so I couldn't hear it. I just noticed it about a month ago. Then I just drove it again today and it was still doing it. Like I said its not very loud, but just enough to be annoying.

What engine is in it? I've heard the throttle body in a few of the new Rangers make a noise like what you describe.

It may very well be the throttle.

Not sure why some do it and some don't, but it doesn't seem to cause any actual issues.

I've seen where the hinge on the waste gate wears and causes a rattle but I don't remember which ecoboost engine it was on.

2019 Edge here, 2.0 ECO with 16,xxx miles. completely silent until the wiffie has to drive in adverse conditions.

I'm going out there to fiddle with it some more and try to pin down the noise location. I'll get all up in the throttle body and see if thats the culprit. If not it'll go to the dealer on monday. I won't lift a finger to actually fix anything that's under warranty but I hate going to the dealer with some vague pointless complaint. At least if I can point at something specific and say "make noisey go away from that" I'll feel better...

Not to worry, the noise will go away as soon as the vehicle smells a dealership...
