Then engine thats going into my ranger is out of a '93 explorer.
2 O2s, batch fire injection, non-egr, automatic trans.
Its been completely rebuilt, so zero miles.
I plan on using megasquirt on the engine once its broken in, but I wanna use the factory ecm to do the breaking in.
I have my adapter wired up to hook the ford ecm back into the megasquirt harness, however, the ford ecm is for an auto. I'm gonna be running a manual trans.
Its only 2 solenoids in the tranny that the ecm controls. Can I just put the approprite resistors in place of them to fool it or will it freak out when it doesn't see the rpms drop when it applies the lockup?
If i really need to use a manual trans ecm, does anyone have one for sale? It has to be off of a '93 fed.

I did almost the exact thing a few years ago - had a couple of spare auto relays and just wired the tranny solenoids wiring across the coils of the relays to fool the
pcm - never had any problems.

Damn, never thought of just using standard auto relays. Thats cool that it works.
Thanks

What exactly do you think a megasquirt injection control is going to do that the factory system won't?

I mean aside from you being able to say you are running a megasquirt system and that you have less money?

Remember that there is only one CORRECT ammount of fuel, any other
ammount is the WRONG ammount.

Also remember that the factory '93 "batch fire" system was capable of providing
sufficient fuel to feed a 4.0 Motorsport Paxton supercharger setup....
so I've just gotta ask... "why?"

Bear in mind that it isn't only you but all the "lurkers" who will see you post
about a megasquirt and think they "need" one for no reason they can define
other than it sounds cool... which frankly is the ONLY purpose served by
many so-called "mods".

The reason that I'm running megasquirt is that I was originally going to turbo my 2.9L. The factory ecm can't see boost. I've since decided to do a 4.0 swap and have a supercharger to go on top once the engine is broken in. I understand that the factory ecm with a maf can adjust for the increased airflow.
I also plan on running this engine, with the supercharger, on lpg with a feedback setup. I have all the equipment to make it happen. Megasquirt will be able to run the spark map for the lpg and be able to make adjustments to the fuel ratio. This is something that the factory ecm can not control.
