i have a 1999 ranger with a 3.0 and am tired of replacing the temp controller (aftermarket) and am trying to see if i can make it to where the ecm controls it. i know the taurus ecm controls the fan but can't find enough info to do it. has anyone done this? i can turn things on and off in the ecm.

The tuarus ecm NEEDS to control a fan, since it's motor is plopped in the engine bay the wrong way to utilize a mechanical fan.

Rangers never came with an E-fan apart from a supplemental one that only comes on with the a/c.. if equipped.. and that might only be with the 4cyl trucks..

There might not be a way to do it without the aftermarket controller. Are the controllers you've been purching of quality.. or are they the cheapest option of off ebay/amazon?

might be able to segment swap if the hardware is there. or just turn it on depending on what tuner you have

i just tend to use the 5 to 15 dollar 3/8 pipe thread switch threaded into my t stat housing to run the lincoln intech controller..

i have had the cheap ones to the 100 kits and they only last a few years before they act up and if i can get the ecm to do the job it will be alot cleaner install and i like setting when it comes on. i have sct software so i can change alot of stuff in the ecm. i already have to tune the ecm.

I use a switch in the radiator hose to control the fan relay directly. No other controller needed. Mine has been working for years with no problem, except that my relay and base melted last week. But that’s because it was a cheap relay with too low of a current rating.

what i use.

6 or 7 years current system that takes hellacios ass whoopinzz. only issue is its 165 cut off. so the fans run longer than needed.

now..for you Eric..you run two cheap 30 or 40 a relays in parallel and that won't happen.

I can always find a relay that will handle the load.

yeah. those too.

i used one of those for a f550 to run the air ride comp. and smoked it in 10 minutes. i will have to get it working for my tuning so i will put it on a switch tell i figure out how i am going to do it.
