Hey all, new to the forum, just picked upa newer 2008 Ford Ranger 3 L v6, and was really wondering if there are any quick and cheap horsepower upgrades out there for these trucks?

Anyone heard any info in regards to these IAT sensor "Resistors" on ebay that guarantee 40+ horsepower and provide better fuel economy? Usually you cannot have the best of both world when it come to horsepower or fuel economy...anyone have experience with these? Sounds kinda shady...

Anyways, good to be on the forum and look forward to learning and sharing as much as possible with all you knowledgable ppl out there..cheers!:icon_thumby:

These have been discussed many times.
They are a scam, period.

scam

is there any inparticular easy upgrade/ ECM Reprogram Software(that is known to be safe other than ford factory updates) that you would recommend ? (sorry, new to this forum and still trying to figure out how to use it)

As Hahnsb2 mentioned... its a scam. I remember asking this same question a few years back. If I recall the answer I received what that it just makes the engine run rich. I could be wrong but I thought it was something along those lines. Welcome to the forums and in regards to your 2nd question... sorry but I don't have any experience / input on that.

No to both... Unless you want to open up the engine and do internal modifications to allow your engine to suck in more air... More power = more money... Spend the money, get the power... It's not a get something chreap thing... I don't see why you need more power... I have a 2.5L Ranger with an automatic and it gets around just fine, and your truck has much more power... I.E. it's not a racecar, if you wanted fast, you should have got something fast...

An underdrive pully set would get you more power, aftermarket exhaust also. I did the exhaust and now my 2000 isn't such a slug off the line and it seems to have more power across the rpm range. And the 3.0 may be bigger than a 2.5 but its still a small motor in a truck but as stated before power=money.

how much would you predict from an underdrive pulley anyways?

LOL, its funny these guys on ebay with these so called "modules" as like I said, you cannot get power and fuel efficiency(in other words, you cannot always have your cake and icing).. I figured it was BS...thanks guys...

oh and beanmachine7000 i picked this truck up really cheap off a family member who no longer can drive and was too good a deal to turn down. I was only curious as to see if there is any small upgrade you could do to gain 15-20 horsepower in order to tow a hardtop trailer..

thanks all for your advice

If you want more horsepower, its gonna cost money. Im talking hundreds, not a dozen or two. You can do some simple mods that can give you a few horses and maybe even save ya 1 or 2 mpg. Like mentioned above, an underdrive pulley would probly be more of what your looking for. They claim it can give you 10 more horses. Expect about 90 shipped for it.

thanks 4 the advice, its a grocery getter then. lol.
Do these under drive pulleys affect anything negatively out of curiousity?

Bob you forgot to mention the "Wallet" also

Thanks! However, I would view WWR (Wallet Weight Reduction) a "positve" in regards to performance, he was looking for "negatives".

These guys are funny, aren't they? What they are saying is the gospel.. If Ford could have given you more milage, more horsepower and more reliability for the same dollars when they built your ride...why in the hell didn't they?

The answer is rather obvious! They did the best that could be done! AND it cannot be improved on...without spending thousands of dollars.
Most times after spending them thousands you do lose some of the reliability..

You may gain a few horses...but at what cost?

In short there are many companies out there trying to sell you something that they SAY will get you this or that.. But they have to not tell you everything or else they simply lie to you in order to get the sale..

We have what we have...the wise person will either drive it like it is or trade it off for what he really wants..

true enough big jim, plain and simply explained..thanks for the advice.. i was only curious, I am a firm believer in keeping things OEM, I wasn't looking to go crazy, was only in the hopes of finding 10-15 extra EASY horse to add to the truck for towing..thanks again.:icon_cheers:
