I am done with eBay forever!

I just recently listed and sold a '72 EB on eBay. This thing was like going to the car lot and buying it new from the showroom floor. 934 miles on it. Completely restored and every nut and bolt had been replaced with stainless steel hardware. Long story short, it sold for $30K and today was the day the deposit was to be delivered. The Dr. who bought it calls today and says his wife is pissed he bought it and wants to know if he can back out of the deal.
I check on eBay and there is nothing I can do to keep him from backing out. WTF?
I always thought buying on eBay was a legal binding contract but I guess all you get is a negative remark against your account?? I've gotten burned for the last time on there, after this deal with the Bronco is done I'm gonna quit using it. Some people actually use it to sell stuff that needs to be sold so bills can be paid.

can't say I've used ebay to sell a vehicle................ wife has used EBAY to sell children's clothing. Their policy's are sided towards the buyer for sure, they get a slap on the wrist (strike on their account).

It is a binding contract. Tell him that. Youd win in court...

yeah, plus he's a doctor, he makes all the money in the household, he needs to grow some balls and tell his wife to STFU

Even if it was from a dealer, you have 3 days to back out.

a vehicle is a major purchase, you can't legally compel him to buy it from you.

He should have talked to his wife in the first place, lol

You would think there would be a 100 dollar non refundable deposit on big purchases.

Yeah well the $2K non-refundable deposit was due today. Makes no difference. If he don't want to pay he don't have to.

I'm off to bid on my dream cars, I'll go as high as $1M each....

I wouldn't give up over one guy. Just re-list it. Almost everyone I have ever sold something to wanted it. I look at it this way--nothing on the internet or in print will show it more, or better. This makes it extremely easy to get bullshit bids, but it gets massive exposure. You wouldn't sell that thing for $3,000 setting it out on the street. You might not get bid up to $30,000 again, but no sale is gaureteed until the money is in the bank. Everything is like this.

Also, make the non-refundable deposit a lot lower so he won't have to think so hard about making it. $500 or even $100. Earnest money on a house is only $1,000. That's only 1% on a cheap house.

I feel for you man. I've got a '57 MGA I listed with no reserve. Sold for over 5g's Punk ass chump that bought it was some kid. Dad said, "No way" The MGA is rotting still in my driveway.

I feel for you man. At least the guy had the balls to tell you (but not his wife) what happened. I've had people just flat out not pay, no contact or anything.

This sounds like the story I heard on Dave Ramsay's show today. Did this guy give you a 500 dollar non-refundable deposit? This guy's wife called Dave Ramsay and she was PISSED he bought a new truck without asking her.

been there done that....its been done to me also...

how many bidders was there? on ebay they have second chance offer to the next bidder in line

It`s not ebay it is called life keep trying you will find some idiot to pay that much for it I would stick to doctors tho. Someone here might scratch it!

Been done that way on ebay myself. You get charged the listing fees regardless of if you get paid or not. You got hosed, shake it off and get on with your life. Post it up on Craigslist.
