eb question

A D30 on a 66 bronco is one thing, a D30 to swap into a ranger.....nah.

Yep. My 170, 3-speed with 225/75-15s aren't gonna bother that D30.:) But to go through the work and expense of an SAS with a D30 boggles my mind. A real waste. If I had to do it all over, I dunno if I would have even gone as small as a D44.

That's a beautiful EB.

My XJ D30 holds up nicely on my ranger.

Almost 1000lb difference between an EB and a Ranger. EB is nose heavy as well. Lots of strain on that little D30 if you play with it. Mine might see snow, so I'm not overly concerned about it.

I would never bother putting anything smaller than a D44 in a Ranger. I don't see the point. A lot of work for nothing. My TTB D35 held up to lots of abuse over the years.

Got mine for free and it is better then the D28 that it replaced too. Plus if I did upgrade to a D44 then it would be FW and I would make it so that I can use my current longarms on it too.

What size tires you running? Looks like all terrains. Where's your wheeling pics?
My D30 holds up nicely in my V-8 Grand Cherokee too. The fact that I don't wheel it helps. Like was said before, most with a D30 will swear they are good as gold. Fact is they aren't. If it's what ya got then fine but be honest with yourself and others. For someone doing a SAS, it's worth the effort to start out with a 44 at minimum. I'm a budget builder myself but I'd rather pay $150 for a 44 than take a free 30.

If ya wanna be a D30 nutswinger the guys on ranger-forums would love to have ya. They would take a D30 over a D60 judging by some of the posts you read over there.
Got 39s? Dana 30 is what ya need.:icon_thumby:

They are MT 32x15x11.50. They are nice for road use and my 2.8 handles the gear and tire combo nicely too.

As far as going to the ranger-forum, never been there, this forum suits me fine. So saying that I have read posts from there and bring them here, WRONG!!!

Ill take free anyday. Getting this axle I knew before hand what I was going to use the truck for so putting this axle under my truck will do the job just fine. In the end if I do need the upgrade, then thats fine, Im not out anything and will spend the $150 for a D44 plus use my current longarms for it too. I work min. wage ($7.25 and hour here) and built this truck on that too. This truck has been in my family for half of its life and it was a grad gift from my dad, its all he could give me and I practicly grew up in this truck too so I will never take it out and bash it either, I will keep it as long as I can plus it being my first vehicle too.

And I am honest with myself, this axle will do me just fine, no need to upgrade from it when theres no reason too, right? Why spend money when you dont need to.

If nobody has nothing good to say about my truck or what I have done to it, then dont say anything about it and keep it to yourself, I dont go bashing on what people have done or do to their truck. But will recommend not to do something such as running 39's on a D30, but if thats what they want to do, let them do it, I wont stop them.

When it comes to my truck, I live by the build it, break it, rebuild it stronger phrase. Until I break it, why rebuild it stronger? If somebody snaps a shaft on a D44 or D60, does that mean they are going to upgrade right then and there, probably not but if it continues to happen and they want to take there truck furthur then what it can currently handle, then I see them doing it.

I do understand a good starting point when it comes to choosing and axle, as long as you have the details on what they are going to use the truck for and what not.

I put a hell of alot of pride into what I did to my truck, first time I had ever done something like this to any vehicle and it was a learning experiance for me more then anything.

Maybe I missed it but where was anybody bashing your truck? lol

i agree w/ byran.. i was gonna do a d30 swap on mine. and it would have help up to what my plans are. but b/c of the budget (Long arms mostly) i've decided that i'm gonna do the d35 ttb. i've seen those d30's beat on w/ 35's and not break.. and i've seen d35's beat on w/ 33's and break, does that mean one is stronger than the other??? b/c that's obviously backwards compared to everyone's thinking on here that the d30 is gonna snap on 30's... the d30 is an upgrade over the d28 that we have/had...

but anyways. lol. foxracin' a d30 would never live under your explorer. but you wheel A LOT harder than we do. i personally have to first and foremost make mine my DD to get me to work and school... and to drink and play pool!!! lol.

yeah, it depends on the final outcome of how you plan to use your truck.

But were just saying If your going to spend the time and money swapping in a 30 then why not just spend a extra $100 and just swap in a 44. Seems like a no brainer to me. But what do I know. lol

Because not everybody has the extra $100. Plus I was also able to trade for the gears for my D30 to match my rear. In the end, it was cheaper for me and it will do what I need.

Mine was bc of width, bolt pattern, and the abundance of d30's and parts around here.

The 44 wouldnt work with my rims and would be to wide... Without more work.

And I knew the d30 would work with 33's so.... It'd be fine.
