My 2.9 ranger just started eating about a quart of oil a day? It is going in the #1 cylinder causing the spark plug to foul out and the truck misses under 2500 rpms but if you mashed it it runs fine. The plug is black crust with oil all over it. Do yall think it is as easy as replacing the valve seat seals or is it worse? I dont wanna pull the head off if i dont have to.

Always leaked from the valve cover and burnt very little but seemed like just one morning it realy ate it. It was a 75 mile trip and it ate a quart

I think its the valve seat seals cause you can put a new plug in run it for a min (it smokes like crazy) and then it only smokes when you turn it off and restart it. I takes a 20 min drive to foul the plug out again??

I'm sad to be the bearer of such bad tidings.. But your problem isn't a valve seal! You have a serious problem in that cylinder. Do A compression check and see what you get on ALL the cylinders.

Is it more in the lines of a valve, rings or piston?

From your description I'd guess you have ruint a piston. There really isn't much to say untill you get in there and look at it.
If it was mine I might just look for another junkyard engine and do a swap. You will have to pull the engine anyway just to repair that one cylinder. And even after it is repaired you will still have the rest of the engine in the same condition it is in now.
