looking for the best method to remove them so i can put new seals in.

i was thinking leave on truck
use two sockets and breaker bars on front and rear output

but once i get one off, will the tranny and engine be able to hold the torque necessary to remove the last flange?

or am i going to have to do one at a time?

Just zip the nut off with an impact.

i don't own an impact gun =[ and i like the other idea with the plate. i attempted to do it once on an old t case, but i ended up breaking the front output yoke =[

the transmission in park should have enough strength to hold you breaking the bolt... after all, it is intended to be strong enough to hold your entire vehicle's weight when up a hill...

Put two of the bolts back in the flange get a cheater bar and wedge it between the two bolts and turn nut opposite with a breaker bar. worked for me anyways.

Put the trans in first (or park) and put the t case in low range to minimize the torque load on the engine (or park pawl)

Unfortunately, the front flange is part of the output shaft and you have to remove and disassemble the case to replace the seal.

HUH?

On SOME later trucks (1998-up Ranger, 1996-up Explorer) it is, on most 13-54's it isn't.

I've taken the front flange off of mine to replace the seal....

My bad. I guess it's been too long since I've worked on anything older than 98. Only the newer trucks with the c/v joint on the front driveshaft need to be disassembled.
