Getting bored looking at a project. got a low mile 460 from a 91 f 250, saw a 92 f 150 short bed 2wd w/ dead 302 , good e4od. besides bellhousing, motor mounts, exaust work and plumbing it would seem to be a plug and play. any thoughts for or against.

The bellhousing does not come off trans so you will need a new trans. you will also need a whole wiring harness, ecm, etc. However a haness from a 91 motor will not work with a 92 truck. It would be best to find a complete donor truck 92-96 style with a 460 and use all of the electronics off it

I saw your "old guy" post in another site - so, one old guy to another, this is a real ground pounding project if you choose to do it. I have a buddy who has a 64 F100 Short bed with a 460. The engine has a few improvements but the truck really scoots. He used a carb and avoided all the computer hassles. You can probably work out the wiring harness and transmission changes though. It is a kick in the butt to drive!

the harness did change, however you can pull all the wiring out of the truck and rewire with the newer harness, or a even better option is to swap out your cabs. The 87-96 F series trucks are basically identical bodies, excluding the interior and the front clip, the front crumple zone/frame. the beds are the same, the cabs are basically the same. Its sorta like the 72 (or so) to 87 chevy trucks, which I have built several of and have a short bed I am planning on putting together this winter, the front clip changes then a few cosmetics in the cabs.
