E Fan?

You will not burn up wiring with an e-fan if you properly spec the wiring. Too small wires will over heat and burn. Make sure you fuse the power wires so that if a wire does wear through and short or if the fan jams and draws too much current it will blow the fuse first.

Is yours wired to the A/C as well? Every car I've seen with an E-Fan stock has the fans cycle on when the A/C clutch is engaged, otherwise the A/C doesn't do much when you're at idle.

Most cars run two electric fans, one runs with the A/C (which I think is how they do in the 4cyl Rager) and one runs off of the engine temp.

I love my e-fan, I wish I'd done it sooner. No charging issues with the U/D pulley.

The interior is quieter at low speeds, a slight, but noticeable power increase and picked up about 1-1.5mpg. A/C works as good, if not better. 6 months out of the year, the fan never kicks on.

I am thinking of installing an e fan too. Why do you have to wire into the a/c?

A/C works by moving heat from the interior to the exterior. The condenser dissipates the heat brought out by the refrigerant by having air move over it. When you idle, there's no air flow, so it doesn't work very well. This is part of the reason the "free spinning" of a mechanical fan clutch is desireable at times and why most cars with a factory e-fan at least partially turn them on - either a single of a pair or both at a lower speed.

Yep!

That's true in a house! But not always the case in a vehicle.. For me? I never use internal air across my A/C evaporator. So correctly said would be the evaporator takes the heat out of the air crossing it and sends that heat to the condensor where it is taken out of the system.
As for the interior of MY vehicle the colder air coming inside forces the inside air to the outside.

I installed the flexlite efan on my ranger for two reasons, most of my offroading is trails, which is rather low speed and low rpm, i was running really hot with the stock clutch fan, also my waterpump recently started leaking. When i went to remove it the stock fan wouldnt come off even after liberal amounts of heat so it got torched off.

Like some others have said my fan hardly ever comes on and it only does while sitting at a standstill, which is exactly what i want for low speed trail runs. When it does come on it cools very well and kicks off very quickly.
As far as power gains didnt really notice any until the higher rpms, you can definitely feel a little difference up top.
Only complaint, its loud as hell when it comes on, with the radio on you cant hear from inside but outside its real loud

Worth it to me. Hope that helps.

so I think I'm going to go for it, what brand of e-fan would you recommend and where would i get it?

I'd recommend doing what I did, and go for the factory ford fan that came on duratec 4 cyl. trucks. They use the exact same radiator as the 3.0, so the entire factory shroud bolts in with some minor trimming to clear the serpentine belt. They can be bought new for around $170, or used from a junkyard, for much less. Just get a temp sensor, wire it up, and you'll have a reliable, well made fan, that only comes on when needed.

i work at autozone and so of course i try to buy everything i can from there since i get a 20% discount. i found this fan that i think i'm gonna try out after i get some other things done. it's for a 2.9 engine, so i dont need a jet engine to blow across the block, but i dont wanna over heat it either. i think i'm gonna try it out and just keep the stock mechanical fan in the car for just in case

here's the fan, i can get it for less that $65 with my discount, i found a wiring kit for $18 too

i dont see why that wouldnt work. its for a ranger/broncoII 83-94, thats means a 2.9L engine. if you have a 3.0, then your engine is only a tad bigger. the CFM's (cubic ft. per minute) is what you wanna have enough of. the flexalite has 1900, the autozone one that i had mentioned above has 2100. obviously, the more CFM's the, theoretically, cooler the engine will be kept.

as far as fitting it, the usually come with these zip-tie type plastic mounting pieces. plus they're real light, so mounting them shouldnt be a problem.

could be for a 3.0 too, i know a couple people with 91 3.0 rangers. Does the autozone one come with the thermostat and a/c relay like the flez-a-lite one does?

yeah, that's what i was sayin....the 3.0 is just a tad bigger than the 2.9, so the same fan should work fine

as far as the thermostat, nope, the autozone fan doesnt come with one and the cheapest one i've found at is $17.99, there's a more detailed one for $34.99 too, but i havent compared the 2 yet, just noticed that the $34.99 one has more stuff in the kit.

i'm tryin to do mine on the cheap though, as i've said, i work at autozone LOL. so $78.99 plus $17.99 (before my 20% off) aint too shabby

True I think I'm going to head over to the performance shop by me friday and see what they offer. If i can get something direct fit with all the relays for a reasonable price ill go for it. They've never steered me wrong before so hopefully I find something good
