Automatic
I have a Duratec with M5R1 in an off topic vehicle and am thinking of switching to automatic. My ECM is a Megasquirt, so controlling the 5R is pretty much out of the question. Can the 5R bell be used to install other transmission?

Your use of non-standard terminology is a bit confusing, but if you are asking if you can take the bellhousing off your existing M5OD manual and slap it on an auto to mate it to your engine, no. The bell housing is an integral part of the transmission case, it doesn't come off.

Also, most autos use the same bolts to hold the bell housing and the fluid pump to the case, so good luck making a manual's bell work with that.

That is not my question.

Can the bellhousing (it appears to be removeable) that is attached to the Ranger Duratec 2.3 automatic be used to "slap" an earlier model automatic onto the Duratec 2.3?

Bill

Probably. All the Ranger autos are related.

I would suggest brushing up on your transmission identifiers. The M5R1 (more properly the M5OD-R1) is a manual transmission. That is the only trans you mentioned by name. There are several versions of RBV automatic transmissions with designators that start with 5R.

Sorry. I thought there was only one automatic for the 2.3 Duratec. What are my choices?
