duraspark problem

i did a duraspark conversion on my 85 2.8. finished installing, wired it up, cranked it and had spark. re wired everything for pushbutton start. and then had no spark. brand new module, brand new msd coil, brand new dizzy. double and tripple checked wiring. when i had spark, my coil must have been f-ed cause it almost lit on fire and the magic smoke came out. so im wondering if when the coil fried it may have fried my module too? i looked up duraspark troubleshooting guide and had no luck.

if anyone has any experience or advice they want to share.

Was the coil designed to run on battery power or with a ballast resistor. If you have a TFI coil the square one wire it up and see if it works I dont imagine you burnt up the module.
