Duraspark Install

Well i got the two boxes replaced. It will start but it wont stay started. It chugs the entire time it is running then dies. :dunno:

Try to keep it running and while doing that try to get a timing light on it and see where its at. After that adjust the timing as needed. Be sure to unplug the vacuum advance when timing it.

Should i have the vacuum advance on when starting it then take it off or just dont have it on period till i get it timed right?

leave it on and set the timing at 20 (degrees before top dead center), it will give you approximately 10 degrees. After you get it up to temp disconnect it to set it at 10 dbtdc. Take a small phillips or somthing to plug the vacuum line as you time it. Double check the timing after you lock the dizzy down. Pre adjust the idle air screws out from lightly seated position 2 1/2 to 3 turns out to get it hot then adjust them for the highest rpm after you hook the vacuum advance back up.

Well it lives :yahoo::headbang:

Now, when i set my timing, isnt there suppose to be timing marks on the crankshaft pulley?

The only indicators on there is a big notch and thats it. :icon_confused:

Take a piece of scotchbrit or steel wool and get under it with a light and a 3/4 socket I believe. clean the damper pully and take a white or yellow marker or crayon from the wide groove marked TC 1 mark is 2 degrees you want to mark it one mark below the 12. disconnect the vacuum to the dizzy and plug it set the pointer not the round thing on your mark lock it down and double check it then plug the vacuum back in.

Only 9 pages to get her running!!!!!!!

Just messing around, glad to hear that she lives again. You wont be disapointed with the system, I love it, starts right up for me.

Now the fine tunning begins.

Man tell me about it, I was so frustrated i almost posted it on craigs.

But it runs now and sounds good untuned.

Now to get a new muffler cuz I. Blew it up.

Any suggestion?

OEM muffler. And pics of the blown up muffler, nvr seen one.

Well no one around me has an OEM muffler in stock, i would have to have them special order it.

We had to order my dads from Autozone, only took a day to get in though. But if you can find one with the same diameter inlet/outlet and size, you should be ok. Autozone doesnt charge me to have to special order something and have it shipped. Get the muffler fixed before fine tunning, it plays a huge part in your vehicles performance.

The muffeler shop up the street from me had one and in in 15 minutes for $110. He pulled the cat and checked it also. the front half was good and the back half was small pieces. If your doing it pull the cat and shake it out while you have it apart and put it back to be legal.

Well i am prolly gonna go with a cherry bomb turbo one, they are only like $30 bucks at the parts store and they have them in stock. I dont have a cat either, when i bought the truck i think the previous owner cut it out and welded in straight pipe.

here is a pic of the muffler danger

Sorry its not the best picture, but the side and back of it came apart and are just hanging there.

Can someone post pics of the timing marks, i cant find them or maybe i dont know what i am looking for.

It was probably time for a new muffler anyways, your truck did what it had to to get one LOL.
