ok ......their not going to open the dirt drag track here and they have closed off the river bottoms to anything thats not a boat:nopityA:
so the tunnell ram and 2 fours, heads and set of 60's(i just bought!) are sold.
iam going to some 289 heads and one 650 and tuning everything down a bit to drive to work every once and a while and do a little mudding here and there.sold all the accel ing. stuff i had so i need a good simple set up.

what year and what do i need to run the dura spark?:icon_confused:
thanks all

I've got the entire Dura-spark setup off of an '83 Econoline (302cid). Haven't taken any pics of it yet. If ya' want, I can.
Make me an offer - pay shipping - whatever? I might be happy just to get it out of the garage.

Really any year duraspark will work. The biggest part you need is the distributor which at any parts store is around $80 now aday. The rest can be junkyard sourced, you will need a harness from the dist. to the ignition box and the ignition box to the truck. Even the ignition box is pretty cheap new. If you want all new you can even get the harness from some mustang places. For all new/reman parts about $200, junkyard around $50 or less. If you are going to bog it in the mud I suggest an MSD mounted in the cab.

Duraspark II Distributor, Ignition Box and Wiring

1983 Technology - its old, not perfect, but when I removed it, functional. I cracked a piece of the plastic housing off of the distributor, when I wasn't paying attention while hoisting the engine! Look at the pic closely, you'll see it. The resin in the ignition box is softening -- don't know if that's a good or bad thing. Just don't want to misrepresent it. The vacuum advance was R&R'd by me and is in good condition. If you think you can use it, pay however much USPS wants to ship however much it weighs to your zipcode, and its yours. I can even toss in a copy of the '83's wiring diagram. The harness is still together, color-coded; should match the diagram. It might get ya' started 'til ya' take "Nitemares" advice on MSD. For pretty darn cheap. Let me know. If you don't want it - won't hurt my feelin's any, but I'm offerin'.

I'll take you up on that if you decide to do so. It just reminded me...

It's a bit :offtopic:, but let me rant for a second.

Which costs more per gallon?
O Gasoline,
O Bottled Water,
O Starbucks.

I confess, I hate "Gas Pump Greed" as much as anyone else:annoyed:, but we really don't have much room to get  - :pissedoff: - :temper: When you stop to consider how spoiled we are as a society. Japan woke up a "sleeping giant" with Pearl Harbor. Bin Laden, and his good ol' boys, brought down the Twin Towers, and we still suck the froth off of our coffee in between snores! Depression, anyone?

:sorrysign: Where were we? Oh, yeah. Back to the Duraspark II!

What about this: Use a DuraSpark distributor, a Ford E core coil and a GM HEI 4 pin module for a 78 Camaro with a 350. The wiring is dead nuts easy and there's no rev limiter. I've been running mine for a couple of years now and it works great. On top of good performance, it was inexpensive to put together.

thanks red..........got any pics of that set up............i think ive seen that on ebay

i hear what your saying wade............good points

Thats a valid setup......it's worth noting that some HEI modules don't like long wires between the pickup and the module, and the module HAS to have decent heat sinking.

My setup did not choke on the 7' of wire I had on it. Definitely use a good heat sink and a CPU fan on it as these things are designed with a spinning pickup overtop of them to stay cool. Like I said my setup has been problem free since installed roughly 2 years ago.
