Dura spark so intimidating

Yes, that is the plan

I went out and cut the red/blue wires and Its appears that the 3 have to be tied into each other for the starting circuit to work. So I have reattached all three. So now Im stumped. I wired everything up per the instructions for the 1985 year model. Now Im starting to think that my original idea of the module is bad might be correct. Is it possible that even though I had it tested that it could be bad?

Yes I just dont see anywhere the red/purple wire is connected in the wiring diagram. What I would do is disconnect all the spliced wires and start from scratch. find key on hot and connect that to coil pos and red to module (Should be red/ltgreen). Find key on start and connect that to the start solenoid and the white to the module (should be red/ltblue). All other color wires leave loose and see what it does be sure and tape all loose wires from accidental shorts. Does your truck have automatic transmission with overdrive?

I did just what you suggested last night. I decided that I might have to take it over to my mechanic. He's an old dirt track guy and said he could fix it pretty easy. I converted my truck over to a manual years ago. I did screw up and removed the wires for the back up lights when I gutted all the computer stuff. I have no idea how I'll fix that. Im not sure where to start on that one.

It just makes absolutely no sense why the engine dies when you turn the lights on and runs if you disconnect the start solenoid. Thats just flat crazy because nothing should be in the start circuit unless the ignition switch or start safety switch is bad. The backup lights on the other hand is another animal they are using the same fuse as the turn signal circuit. maybe your problem is at the tranny when you did the conversion. Do you have a clutch switch wired in, can you start it in gear with the clutch out that needs to be fixed. Just take one circuit at a time and trace it from hot to ground. Sometimes it is better to get someone fresh to look at it and attack at a different angle.

What kind of ignition coil is that and does it have a good ground to the chassis. Maybe run a ground wire from the engine to the coil mount?

The coil is new and is off a 1978 2.8. I will add a ground like you said, But will not be for a few days because of work
