ok ,my ranger-when i unscrew the oil cap when its running will sputter and almost die,is this normal?

check you PCV valve pull it out and put your finger over it and see what happens you should change it at least once a year. Also take your oil cap and soak it in cleaner and blow it dry. hope that helps

Not really. It means you are losing vacuum when you open the lid. Check / clean the air filter in addition to PCV as mentioned above.

changed the air filter,it was very dirty, just bought the truck after sitting for 6 years so its bound to have some bugs, but it runs well,no blow by,,the air filter changed it some but still has a noticeable decrese in idle when u pull off the oil cap, where is the pcv valve on this thing-90 ranger 2.3.5 sp

i think it's in the same spot as on my 94, which is very difficult to find if you don't know what you're looking for.

It's on drivers side rear of the motor behind the intake manifold. if you look at the 2 hoses it's inside, the pcv valve looks like a coupler inside the hoses, just pull the hoses apart and you'll see it.

i guess that's not a great explanation, but when you get in there and start looking you'll understand.
